Can christians suffer from the same things non-believers do, but still be christians? Depression, anxiety, rage fits, etc. Why would a christian though if they're christians? What kind of protection do you have exactly from God?

Great article...glad someone spoke up. I am "appalled" (to use Newt's phrase) and embarrassed that the founder of AFA would endorse Newt. Newt has repented? not hardly...he slings too many arrows and purposely humiliates and intimidates... he is still an ego-maniac - I can't imagine that he is a true Christian. It's easy to SAY you've changed your ways.

This country needs to be put back together by someone who has integrity, character and diplomacy...and some business experience. (My personal vote is for Mitt Romney and Santorum would be my seond HOWEVER we need to put someone who is able to beat Obama. To support Newt because of his debating abilities is crazy...Obama will NOT commit to more than the required 2-3 debates and he will skewer Newt because of his baggage. Newt doe not "play well with others" we need a leader than can bring both sides together and dissolve this viciousness between parties. Also..there's a Youtube video of Romney's family saying grace before a meal from years ago...and they ended with "in the name of Jesus Christ". I would rather have someone who walks the walk leading our country that a bully who SAYS he has repented and can't get along with anyone.
And one more note... If someone stole $1,000,000 and kept the money they no doubt would be happy and could live quite comfortably for the rest of their lives...so then, without returning the money, that person could easily SAY "I have repented" ...but if they did not restore the money, it would not be a true repentance. Instead Newt calls his ex-wife a liar.

If the AFA endorsed anyone because of Christian walk it should have been Santorum...but we do not need for churches to lose their tax free status (giving the govt more money to waste) just so some minister can back a particular candidate...very upsetting!
I just lost all respect for AFA...can't believe they would do this.

Glad to get it straight from the "varsity" team :P.
The law is not universally negative, but encompasses both the things we ought to do and the things we ought not to do. Sin is not just doing bad things that should be avoided, but also the failure to do the good that we ought. The law doesn't necessarily just say "no." The law says, "Do this, and you shall live."

Score one for Walther! Apart from the law, there is no pain from sin. The Lutheran ethos to the law/gospel distinction, which Walther was a leading advocate for, says it's not either/or, but both. Preach the law to its harshest, and the gospel to its sweetest, and make sure the two are appropriately labeled. Nothing is more condemning than to preach the law and call it gospel (as in, just love God with your whole heart, that's all we have to do...), or to preach the gospel and call it law (Jesus died for your sins, so YOU are guilty and must apologize to God for killing him...).

Focusing on the law is junior varsity Christianity. The real power in transcending the world comes from fulfilling the things that we are able and could do, not in avoiding the things we shouldn't. Filling your time with the positive actions moves lives forward and is compelling to others. If the only goal is denying the forbidden, then there is nothing to show for the time but compliance. That cannot stir a heart.
